Introducing Availability Reports for Solr-as-a-Service Customers

As part of our support services at Measured Search®, we offer our premium customers service-level guarantees (SLA) about response time and availability.

Clients who select Gold, Platinum or Platinum Plus levels of support get access to an Availability Report in the SearchStax® dashboard. This is a graph and a summary that makes a record of response times and downtime so they can be compared with the guarantees of the client’s service-level agreement (SLA).

availabilityreport
The Availability Report displays the uptime of a specific deployment for the current month and for any previous months.

For further information, see the Plans page of the SearchStax documentation.

Availability Reports are only available to Gold+ Customers.

Introducing Custom JAR Support for Apache Solr deployments via SearchStax Dashboard

SearchStax by Measured Search premium customers have been enjoying the ability to utilize custom JARs within their deployments running Apache Solr through our Support team. At Measured Search, we love cloud automation and strive to figure out ways for our customers to speed up their development and release cycles. Previously, deploying custom JARs took anywhere from a half a day to two business days. The process included opening a support ticket, deploying the custom JAR’s, and then communicating successful deployment back to the customer. The customer would then be enabled to start using the new capability that they built.

We felt we could do better. Today, we have released the ability for our customers to deploy custom JARs themselves to their SolrCloud deployments through SearchStax Cloud Manager. SearchStax Gold and above customers now no longer have to go through our support team to deploy their JARs within their Apache Solr deployments.  They can utilize the SearchStax Dashboard to completely control which JARs to deploy and when they want to deploy them.

The JAR files are added and managed through the JARs page within the SearchStax dashboard.

Hitachi Solutions America and Measured Search® Launch First-of-Its-Kind Secure Solr Search Solution in the Cloud at Lucene Revolution 2016

New Integrated Offering Provides Solr Customers With Unprecedented Level of Security on Confidential Data

Los Angeles, CA – October 12, 2016 – Measured Search, Inc., a leader in cloud orchestration, management and analytics platform for Apache Solr announced that it has partnered with Hitachi Solutions America and will be showcasing a combined solution offering cloud-based secure search on top of Apache Solr during the Lucene Revolution 2016 conference in Boston, MA.

Measured Search’s SearchStax® product suite offers automated provisioning and scaling of Apache Solr Search Engine, on-demand and scheduled backups, 24/7 monitoring and alerting, comprehensive analytics, and administrative tooling that helps companies manage and scale their Solr search solutions in the cloud.

SearchStax® combined with Measured Search’s Managed Services power the only fully managed Solr-as-a-service multi-cloud capable offering available today.

Hitachi Solutions America’s Credeon Secure Full-Text Search is a searchable encryption technology for the full-text search engine, Solr. It protects against internal and external threats by enabling encrypted search index queries to be performed without requiring the decryption of the index. Use of a random number for encryption with homomorphic functions and a symmetric-key encryption scheme achieves the highest level of security available without sacrificing performance.

“We value Measured Search for their forefront initiatives in managed Solr solutions in the Cloud. We’re excited about this strategic partnership which allows more customers to secure their Solr solutions through the extensive expertise and great customer service offered by Measured Search” said Junji Kuramoto, Senior Vice President, Hitachi Solutions America, Ltd.

New Feature, New Release

New version of SearchStax (v2.1.5) rolled out to all customers

As of September 6, 2016, there has been a SearchStax update. All SearchStax customers automatically received this update. No action is required.

New Features

  • SearchStax Pulse allows users to see the status of shards and replicas for each collection. On the SearchStax dashboard for a deployment, navigate to Monitoring > Collections. SearchStax users can now monitor the health of every replica in every collection without having to log in to the Solr Administrative interface to find that out.
    shardreplicamonitor
  • Account Admin can resend an invitation to a user. Users with Admin role now have the ability to resend an invitation if it has expired. To do so, select a user, click Bulk actions and Resend invitation.
    userbulkemail

Improvements

  • Server status based on heartbeat instead of get request. Monitoring of server status is now based on a heartbeat function, instead of on-demand polling. In cases where Solr APIs are restricted by Authentication, the status of a particular server could not be retrieved. With this release, we’ve reworked the server status to rely on the SearchStax Pulse agent that does not have this drawback.
  • Notice when Solr admin customized security.json. Disables Solr authentication via the SearchStax dashboard (Deployment > Security > Auth) so that SearchStax will not accidentally interfere with Solr-side authentication.
  • Let the Admin rename the deployment. The deployment name is now editable by the user with Admin role.

Bug Fixes

  • Low numbers don’t display properly on graphs. Fixed an issue with Search Throughput graphs where the graphs did not display very low values properly.
  • Cluster goes unavailable if one node is restarted. An issue that sometimes interfered with cluster management has been fixed.
